The fresco group covering the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican is one of the paintings depicting 9 separate stories from the Old Testament, designed by Michelangelo. The fresco of the Creation of Adam is located right in the center of the ceiling, at the focal point. Although the subject of the fresco has been interpreted in many different ways throughout art history, Michelangelo's depiction has been imprinted in our memories as the most special and effective work on the subject. Adam's weak body, waiting to come to life, tries to reach his god, while God, with his angels under his cloak, glides towards Adam. Adam's slightly bent wrist and lifeless drooping fingers contrast with God's tensed, strong fingers. We feel that God, quickly moving through space, will soon touch Adam's finger and give him life, and that Adam's weak body will revive and rise. I offer my respects to Michelangelo and his God by designing this moment just before the touch as a necklace.
